A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF.BAKERSFIELD COMMENDING THE CALIFORNIA
STATE COLLEGE AT BAKERSFIELD WRESTLING
TEAM AND COACH JOE SEAY.
WHEREAS, California State 'College at Bakersfield
(Cal State-Bakersfield) is an important segment of the com-
munity in the City of Bakersfield; and
WHEREAS, the athletic program at Cal State-Bakersfield
provides the residents of the City of Bakersfield wholesome
entertainment; and
WHEREAS, the Cal State-Bakersfield wrestling team
in the past has brought national recognition to the City of
Bakersfield; and
WHEREAS, on January 6, 1981, the Cal State-Bakersfield
wrestling team again brought national recognition to the City
of Bakersfield by defeating the number two nationally ranked,
Division I, wrestling team of the University of Oklahoma by
the convincing score of 27 to 18; and
WHEREAS, on January 7, 1981, the Cal State-Bakersfield
wrestling team defeated the previously unbeaten, number seven
nationally ranked, Division I, wrestling team of the University
of Oregon by a score of 20 to 18; and
WHEREAS, Joe Seay has coached the Cal State-Bakersfield
wrestling team since its origination in 1972; and
WHEREAS, Coach Seay has brought attention to the
City of Bakersfield by leading the Cal State-Bakersfield
wrestling teams to National Collegiate Athletic Association,
Division II, Championships for the years 1978 and 1979; and
WHEREAS, Coach Seay was named National Collegiate
Athletic Association, Division II, Coach of the Year in 1976
and 1980, and Division I Coach of the Year in 1980.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of
the City of Bakersfield commends the California State College
at Bakersfield wrestling team and Coach Seay for their dedi-
cated and arduous pursuit that has achieved for their team
and eir College national prestige and that has gained
