HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES NO 40-54RESOLUTION N0.40-54 Bakersfield, California WHEREAS this Council has been informed that a uniform sales tax proposal is being formulated for presentation to the California Legislature, and WHEREAS numerous reasons have been advanced to justify the enactment of uniform sales tax legislation, which reasons appear to this Council to be good and sufficient, and WHEREAS a substantial number of California cities already levy a local sales tax of one percent (1%) or more, and WHEREAS other cities having need for additional revenue must soon enact local one percent (1%) levies unless the uniform sales tax proposal is adopted, and WHEREAS the incorporated cities of this State have urgent need for a full one percent (1%) tax on sales within their borders, to provide the many services and facilities needed by city resi- dents, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Bakersfield, California~ as fol~lows: l, That the enactment of legisl~tion to provide for a uniform state-wide saies tax is necessary and desirable, and 2. That collection of such uniform sales tax should be by an agency of the State of California, and 3- That of the uniform sales tax collected within in- corporated cities, a full one percent (1%) shall be returned to the city wherein it shall have been collected. Made and passed this fourth day of October, 19~+.
