HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES NO 23-54RESOLUTION NO. ~-.~ ~fHEREAS, the Congress of the United States has authorized the creation of an AIR ACADE~TY and has approved an initial appro- priation to acquire a site and begin construction, and WHEP~EAS, the selection of a site is now being considered by the Site SeleCtion Board, for the construction of the nation. l s "West Point of the Air", and WEEAS, the State of California comprises a majority of the western coast line of continental United States, and is geograp- hically ideal for the site of the proposed AIR ACADET~Y, and VfitEREAS, the equable climate of the State of California will permit such year-around activities as would be engaged in by the AIR ACADEMY, and WHEREAS, California is recognized by military and civilian authorities as highly suited for the trainin~ activities of all branches of the military. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Bakersfield, that the Site Selection Board be urged and requested to give serious and thoughtful consideration to the establishment of the AIR ACADEMY in the State of California. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this Resolution be for- 'warded to Goodwin J. Knight,. Governor of the State of California, United States Senators William F. Knowland and Thomas H. Kuchel, and Congressman.
