WHEREAS, the construction of the Isabella Dam Project
located' on the Kern River in Kern County has been completed by
the United States Government through its Corps of Engineers, and
WHEREAS, the Isabella Dam is located in the Kern River
Recreational Area, which is visited and enjoyed by thousands of
peBple each year from Southern California, the desert regions,
Kern County and the neighboring counties to the west aud north,
and
WHEREAS, the Kern County Board of Supervisors, together
~.with many civic, reCreation.al, and ~sporting organizations, have
gone on record as favoring the establishment and maintenance
of 50,000 acre feet of water in the isabella Reservoir for the
propagation of fish, and for the benefit of the many people who
are devoted to fishing, boating, swimming and other allied sports,
and
WHEREAS, there would be no additional cost to the United
States Government or Ithe Corps of Engineers in accumulating and
maintaining 50,000 acre feet of water to form ISABELLA LAKE, and
WHEREAS, the close proximity of Greater Bakersfield and
other communities in Kern County. to the Kern River Recreational
Area makes the formation ~of ~.ISAB~'ZLA .LAKE highly desirable and
would provide additional recreational Snjoym. ent for the over
250,000 residents of Kern County alone.
NOW, TEEFORE, BE IT RESOLVED' by the Council of the City
of Bakersfield, that~ this ~Council, 0n~ behalf of approximately
80,000 residents of Greate~ BakerSfield, hereby supports the Kern
County Board of Supervisors in their application for the mainten-
ance of 50,000 acre feet of water in ISABELLA LAKE for rec-
reational purposes and for the propagation of fish, and urge
and request the Corps of Engineers of ~the United States Govern-
ment to take steps toward the formation of Such a lake behind
the Isabella Dam.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVE that the Clerk of this Council send
copies of this· resolution to the Corps .of Engineers, United States
Government, Sacramento, California; to Congressman Harlan Hagen,
to United States Sehators William F,~ Knowland'and Thomas H. Kuchel;
and to the Board of SuperviSors of thee county of..Kern.

I HEREBY CERTIFY that. the foregoing Resolution was passed
