WHEREAS, it has come to the attention of the Council of
the City of Bakersfield, that the Kern County Museum Board of Trustees;.
has made application to the Southern Pacific Company for a gift of
a narrow-gauge train and its tracks owned by said Southern Pacific
Company, and
WHEREAS, this Council being aware of the progress which
has been made by the Kern County Museum in recent years, in perpet-
uating the historical background of Kern County, is in full accord
with its aims and purposes, arid
WHEREAS, the gift of said narrow-gauge train and its tracks
from the Southern Pacific Company to the Kern County Museum, to be
kept and maintained in Kern County as a part of its historical shrine,
would be a fitting and perpetual reminder of Southern Pacific Com-
pany,s world-renowned engineering feat in bringing its railroad
through the Tehachapi Mountains, an era of pioneering which is and
will be in the years to come, dear to the hearts of many residents
of California.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that this Council goes on
record as favoring the application of the Kern County Museum Board
of Trustees to the Southern Pacific Company, for a gift of the narrow-
gauge train and its tracks owned by said Company, and that it is the
hope end desire of this Council that said Southern Pacific Company
will give its utmost and careful consideration toward the granting
of said application.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be
forwarded to the Southern Pacific Company and to the Kern County
Museum Board of Trustees.

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was passed
and adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield at a regular
meeting thereof held on the llth day of J~nuary, 19~4, by the fol-
lowing vote:
