WHEREAS, this Council is informed that the Air Force of the United States is at present considering instituting specialized training centers for the Air Force Reserve throughout the United State s, and WHEREAS, the San Joaquin Valley in the State of California is to be the site of one of these planned specialized training centers, and WPiEREAS, of the forty-three Air Force Reserve Squadrons of the Western Defense Command, the 9~1!7 VAR Squadron of Bakersfield has surpassed other areas in attendance and performance, and WHEREAS, Bakersfield is the center of flights from outlying communities such as Taft, Shafter and China Lake, which are attached to the Bakersfield Squadron, and therefore makes the number of our potential Air Force Personnel as much, if not more, than other cities of the San Joaquin Valley of equal or larger size, and WHEREAS, this Council is aware of the great interest shown by the public in the activities of the Air Force Reserve and is cognizant of the enthusiastic response and efforts~ of the personnel of Bakersfield' s Squadron, and WHEREAS, in recognizing the success and accomplishments of the Bakersfield Air Force Reserve, this Council feels that the establishment of a specialized training center in this community would be of great benefit and opportunity to an ever increasing number of Air Force personnel in this vicinity. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of BakePsfield, as follows: ........ 1. That the Air Force of the United States be urged to give solemn consideration to the establishment of a Specialized Training Center in or nea~ the City of Bakersfield in order to accommodate the numerous eligible personnel in and a~ound this City. 2. That copies of this Resolution be forwarded to General Kessler, Commanding General, and General Duncan, Deputy Commanding General, at Fourth Air Force Headquarters, in soliciting their support toward securing the establishment in this community of a Speciallined Training Center. I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was passed and adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield at a regular meeting thereof held on the 1st day of February, 1954, by the fol- lowing vote: Cit Clerk of the Council of the City of Bakersfield.
