WHEREAS, there is presently being constructed in the County
of Kern, State of California, a flood control project known as the
Isabella Dam Project, which project is under the supervision of the
Corps of Engineers, Department of the Army, and
WHEREAS, the sum of $4,500,000.00 has been recommended as
a proper appropriation for the completion of said project, whereas
in reality the sum of $6,237,000.00 will be required to expedite the
completion of said project together with the acquisition of the lands
necessary for reservoir purposes, and
WHEREAS, an unexpectedly heavy snowfall in the mountains
constituting the watershed of the Kern River has given rise to con-
siderable concern for the safety of public property and rich agri-
cultu~sl lands due to the large mount of water which will be
discharged into said river, and
WHEREAS, there lies below the bed of the Kern River and inside
the corporate limits of the City of. Bakersfield, property valued at
approximately $150,000,000.00, which property will be endangered by
the high waters of the Kern River during the spring months of the
year, unless the same is controlled.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City
of Bakersfield, as follows:
That the Appropriations Cormnittee of the House of Representa-
tives is hereby respectfully urged to approve an appropriation of
$6,237,000.00 to expedite the completion of said~ Isabella Dam project,
and
That said Connnittee is hereby urged to recognize the need of
and to work for the undelayed completion of said project.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk forward certified
copdes of this resolution to SENATOR WILLIAM F. KNOWLAND, SENATOR
RICHARD NIXON and to CONGRESSMAN THOMAS H. WERDEL.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was passed
and adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield at a regular
meeting thereof held on the 25th day of February, 1952, by the
following vote:
