WHEREAS, Chief of the Fire Department Philip C. Pifer
has been in the service of the City since December 22, 1923, and
WHEREAS, his record with the-City has been both long
and distinguished and under his leadership as Chief of the Fire
Department since July l, 1938, the Bs]~ersfield Fire Department has
grown end developed into one of the fine st and most efficient
departments of any city of similar size in the nation, and
WEREAS, Chief Pifer will have completed twenty-eight
years of service with the City of Bakersfield on December 23, 19~l,
and the City Council wishes to take this opportunity to publicly
recognize his loyal and efficient service to the City.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that this Council hereby
expresses its profound appreciation of the long, honest and faith-
ful service of Chief Philip C. Pifer and wishes to go on record
as highly commending him for such service on this occasion.

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was passed
and adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield at a regular
meeting thereof held on the 8th day of October, 19~l, by the follow-
ing vote:
