A RESOLUTION REGARDING A PROPOSED
NATIONAL GUARD ARMORY IN THE BAKERS-
FIELD AREA.'
WHEREAS, because of the present unsettled condition of
world affairs, it is imperative that this nation make adequate
preparations to defend itself in the event of any worsening of
of international conditions, 'and
WHEREAS, our nation, s President, recognizing the danger,
has proclaimed a national emergency, and
WHEREAS, the State of California, desiring to cooperate
with the federal government in its program of national defense, has
embarked on an extensive program of civil defense and security, and
WHEREAS, National Guard armories are en aid in strengthen-
ing the National Guard system, and have served effectively in the
event of disaster as emergency hospitals and emergency housing
for the homeless, and
WHEREAS, the budget of the State of Califor. nia· for the
fiscal year 1950-51 provides for a specific sum for construction
of a National Guard Armory at Bakersfield, which the Legislative
Auditor has recommended be eliminated or deferred.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT ~HESOLVED that the City Council of
the City of Bakersfield sitting in regular session this 23rd day
of April, 1951, ~ does hereby strongly protest the recommendation
of the Legislative Auditor to eliminate. said funds or defer the
Construction of a National Guard Armory in'order to reallocate
said funds to other projects.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this
Resolution be sent to the Honorable Jess R. Dorsey, Senator 'from
the 34th District, the Honorable H. W. Kelly, Assemblyman from
'
the Thirty-Ninth District, t~e~ Honorable Marvin Shetwin,~ Chairman
of the Assembly Ways and Means Cormnittee, the Legislative Auditor,
and the Adjutant General of ths State of California.
