A RESOLUTION AMENDING THE CLASSIFICATION
PLAN FOR OFFICERS AND EMPLOYEES OF THE
MISCELLANEOUS DEPARTmeNTS INSOFAR AS THE
SAME RELATES TO JANITORS.
WHEREAS, on September 7, i948,~this Council, by an order
entered upon its minutes,~approved a classification plan for
officers and employees in thei!~iscellaneous.DePartments of the
City, and
WHEREAS, since the approval of said'plan, it has become
apparent that the provisions of said plan insofar as they pertain
to the· position of Janitor do not prescribe a sufficiently high
standard of education and experience to insure th~ procurement
of competent personnel to fill said position, and said standard
should be raised, and
WHEREAS, it has been found that the work of janitor in the
public buildings of the City includes the performance of duties
requiring a degree of physical agility not found in persons of
advanced age and that the provisions of the aforesaid plan,
insofar as it relates to the position of Janitor, should be amended
to include an age limit, and
WHEREAS, said changes have been approved by the Civil Service
Board for Officers and Employees in the Miscellaneous Departments.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City
of Bakersfield. that the aforesaid classification plan, insofar as
the same pertains tothe position of Janitor be and thel same is
hereby mended as follows:
l. That under~the title-"EmploymentI.Standards", add the
.following: "Age limit, 55 years".

2. That the first paragraph under the title "Employment
Standards" be and the same is hereby amended to read as follows:
'"~ combination of education ~and experience substantially
equivalent to completion of the eighth grade and three yeses'
experience in Janitorial work in large office or public buildings."

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was passed
and adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield at a regular
meeting thereof held on the 26th day of March, 1951, by the follow-
ing vote:
