WHEHEAS, certain persons are broadcasting statements and
spreading rumors that a number of elective and appointive officers
of the City of Bakersfield are involved in the current scandal
concerning nude pictures of young girls in lewd and indecent
postures and practices, and that prosecuting officers are suppres-
sing investigation and prosecution as to some of the principals
involved;
AND, WREEEAS, suppression of proceedings against public
officers or any other person who may be involved in such matters
would be abhorrent and repulsive to even the most rudimentary
sense of decency;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Bakersfield that the public welfare requires a full and
complete investigation of whatever facts there may be upon which
such rumors and public charges are based, and that to such end a
public investigation by the Grand Jury, the District Attorney and
the Sheriff,s Office be made and that the facts be disclosed;
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council does not
look with favor upon the suppression of such information; that the
City Council hereby requests that the Chief of Police and his
Department lend themselves in every possible way in assisting the
District Attorney and the Sheriff and/or the Grand Jury in a full
and complete investigation; and that, if the facts warrant,
criminal proceedings be instituted and prosecuted, and that all
guilty persons be punished regardless of who they may be or what
official position they may hold.
