HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES NO 5-48 RESOLUTION NO. 5-48+ V~RE~S, it has come to the attention of the Council of the City of Bakersfield, California, that certain charn~els in the radio spectrum proposed by the Federal Communications Com- mission for use by the mobile services are being sought by com- mercial interests, specifically FN Broadcasters, and WHEi{EAS, the channels in question, the 44-%0 megacycle band, were released by the Television Services after a hearing before the Federal Communications Commission on i~ovember 17, 1947, for use by the mobile services in exchange for non-interference in the 70-76 megacycle band to be relinquished by said mobile services, and W}EAS, these frequencies in the 44-50 megacycle band are now being requested by the FN Broadcasters, who, by.filing a proposed joint resolution v;ith the Committee on Interstate and Foreign Com- merce of the House of Representatives of the United States~ are endeavoring to override the proposed decision of the Federal Com- munications Commission, and V~EEREAS, these channels have been set aside for public use for emergency vehicles, and the best public interests will be served by the use of these channels by police, fire and. other agencies for the protection of lives and property rather than for commercial broadcasting, and WHEREAS~ the passage of the resolution proposed by the ~ sroadcasters would render obsolete millions of dollars worth of radio equipment now in use~ purchased by local and state police and fire agencies with public funds. _~I NOV~'THEREFORE~ BE IT HESOLVED that. this Council sitting in regular session this first day of March,. 1948,' goes on record as being opposed to the passage of the-proposed joint resolution r~W~ before ~he House of Representatives?' Committee on Interstate and Foreign commerce, .~hereby the Federal Communications Commis- sion word be authorized an~directed to assign char~nelS in the 44-50 megacycle portion of t~?radio spectrum to M~ Broadcasters, ~,~,~. proposed resolution. . -- BE IT FURTHEE 'RESOLVED,-that a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to the Honorable Charles A. Wolverton of New Jersey, Chairman of the Commit~se on Interstate and Foreign Commerce, House of Re'presentatives~, and-to the Honorable Clarence F. Lea and the Honorable Carl Hinshaw,1 -Members of said Committee from the State of California.
