WMR. REAS, a group of representative citizens of Kern County
have taken primary action toward the'organization of a local unit
of the U. S. 99 Highway Association, Inc., a non-profit group
organized to sponsor and advertise U. S. Highway 99 as andinter-
national highway, and
WHEREAS, it is proposed to conduct a drive during the week
of November 17, 1947, to complete the organization in Kern County,
and
WHEREAS,. it is generally recognized that U. S. 99 Highway
is the most important highway in Kern County and that great benefit
will accrue to the County and to the City of Bakersfield from the
educational advertising campaign to be conducted.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City
of Bakersfield, that the week beginning Monday, November 17, 1947,
be and it is hereby designated as U. S. 99 HIG~VAYWEEK, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that we request that the citizenry
of the City of Bakersfield consider and suggest all possible ways
in which this International Highway designated as U. S. 99 Highway
can be made of even greater service to the City of Bakersfield.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was passed and
adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield at a regular meet-
ing thereof held on the 17th day of November, 1947, by the following
vote:
