W~EREAS, the contracting and spreading of venereal disease
has become a matter of grave concern to the citizens of the City of
Bakersfield and to the ~ilitary and Naval Authorities;
NOW, TifEREFOt~, BE IT i{ESOLVED by.the Council of the City of
Bakersfield, as .follows:
That aggressive law enforcement for'the ultimate, final and
permanent elimination of commercialized prostitution in the'City of
Bakersfield, be maintained.
That hotel and rooming house operators be urged to cooperate
in the prevention of the use of their establishments for promiscuous
activities.
That the JUdiciary be requested to cooperate in the support of
an all-out repression program.
That the District'.Attorney's office be requested t'o extend the
full force and power of its office in support of a repression program
and to institute abatement proceedings against: properties which have
become repeatedly involved in prostitutional activities.
That the aggressive use. of quarantine.laws by the Health Depart-
ment in the detection, detention and treatment of venereally infected
persons., be continued.
That business, civic, veteran~ and social ~elfare organizations
be asked to give their wholehearted support to a venereal disease
control program in Bakersfield.

I EREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was passed
and adoptsd by the Council of the City of Bakersfield, at a regular
meeting thereof held on the 17th dayof July, 1944, Iby the following
