OF AUT0'k~0TIVE EQUIPI?E!~f. NO. 1-42
~IEREAS, motor vehicle transporation is of the utmost
importance in the economic and business life of this state and a
necessary factor in the production of materials essential to the
conduct of war by this nation; and
V~EREAS, severe limitations have been imposed upon the
sale of new automotive equipment, including tires and tubes; and
WHEREAS, a program of automobile and tire conservation
will assure a maximum of use of existing automotive equipment;
NOW, THEREFORE, it is hereby recommended by the Council
of the City of Bakersfield that the following program be approved:
(1) Universal observance of the maximum speed limit of
forty (40) miles an hour requested by ~esident Roosevelt;
(2) Curtailment of a~unnecesssry driving;
(3) The sharing of business driving with friends, neigh-
bors and fellow employees on a reciprocal basis;
(4) Voluntary periodical inspection of automobiles and
tires to assure maximum life;
(5) The staggering of business hours to relieve overloads
on available mass transportation facilities.

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was passed
and adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield, at a reg~ar
meeting thereof held on the 6th day of April, 1942, by the following
vote:
