HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES NO 09-41RESOLUTION NO. 9-41 A RESOLUTION PROVIDING-FOR TE ESTABLISHI,~NT OF A D~vF~NSE BE- CREATION C0~{MITTEE IN THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD, CALIFORNII. WHEREAS, conditions require that some agency be establish- ed by the City of Bakersfield to perform the functions and secure the objectives hereinafter more particularly specified; and V~IEREAS, it is necessary that some ~Lthority be set up to act in matters relating to recreation, entortcinmont and social opportunities for persons in the military service of the United States, Great Britain or other friendly nations~ who may be in traini~ or stationed in ~his vicinity; NOW, THEREFORE, in consideration of the premises, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED: FIRST: That there shall bs established and the Mayor be authorized and directed to appoint an unoffici%l co~nittee of him residents of the City or vicinity, to be known as Bakers~ield Defense Recreation Committee, the duties, purposes and powers of which shcl~. be as follows: (a) The object and purpose of said Conrnittee shall be to make a survey and study the needs and facilities of this eo~nunity for furnishing recreation, entertainment and social opportunities for persons in the military services above mentioned 'who m~y be enca~p~d or in training in this vicinity while said persons may be in the City or vicinity on leave; (b) to study, plan and provide programs of entertainment, recreation and social opportunities for portions in s~%ch services while in the City or vicinity on leave; (c) to set up tablish a local hospitality center ~vhere restrooms an~, other accoF~cda- tions may be provided~ if such center is considered necessary and pro- viding finances can be secured the~efor~ (d) to c~ordinate and, so ~ar as possible, to avoid duplication cf effort as to all of such matters in this vicinity; (e) to recommend buildings or sites for bnildings, or property for lease, to be secured or acquired for use as a hospit- ality center in connection with the Us S. 0. program; and (f) to present the City in all matters relatir.~ to the United Service Organ- ization and its establishment and. operation in this co~nnnity. SECOND: That the Mayor shall have authority to fill ar~° vacancies which may occur on said Com, nittee. THIRD: That such Committee sh~!l have po~er to o:cganize in such manner as it shall deem most suitable to the attainment of its objects and purposes, and have power to create and appoint s~ch sub-committees from its own membership, oF partly from its oLnn hembet- ship and from residents of the co~mmunity, as it shall deem necessary or advisable.
