NO. 6-41 WHEREAS, the City is under increasing stress to provide entertainment to men in the Military Service, and finds itself but poorly equipped to furnish the means of recreation for the hundreds of boys in the service who are coming to our city streets for entertainment and recreation, AND, WHEREAS, this City appreciates the fine character of these men and boys, NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that the several religious and social organizations in the city be requested to establish an agency or agencies for the reception of the men and boys in Military Service by providing a place where they may find home contacts or other social contacts of the proper kind in this city; .- AND BE IT FURT~ RESOLVED that the Chief of Police of this City contact theatres, baseball parks, and other places of amusement, with the view of securing the free admission to all of such places of all men and boys in the Military Service while in uniform, and report his findings back to the Council at the earliest opportunity, and that the City Attorney furnish the Council with an O~inion whether City has the power to require such places of amusement to admit service men free of entrance charges as a condition of licensing such business. o0o- I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was passed and adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield, at a regular meeting thereof held on the 2nd day of June, 1941, by the following vote: AYES: CLEMENTS, MARMADUKE, NORRIS, SIEMON, SMIl*H, SOLLERS, VERCAMMEN NOES: _~ ..............................................................
