A RESOLUTION REGARDING THE LOCATION OF THE
NEW FEDEHAL-POST OFFICE BUILDING IN THE
CITY OF BAKERSFIELD, CALIFORNIA.
V~EREAS, an appropriation was made the year 1938 for a new
Federal-Post Office Building in the City of Bakersfield, and
~EREAS, the Federal Authorities have made a complete survey
of all sites submitted, and
~i~EREAS, one of the said sites is located within the present
recognized Civil Center Area, and
~3~EREAS, the placing of the new Federal-Post Office Building
between H Street and G Street, along 16th Street, would provide an
efficient and orderly expansion of our present Civil Center with ade-
quate parking facilities, and
~LREAS, this orderly expansion would confine all Federal,
State and Municipal Services to an area of more than twelve acres
within a three block radius, which now includes the following:
Kern County Court House
City Hall
Kern County Hall of Records
Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce
Children's Library
~erson School and Auditorium
City Supt. of Schools Building
Proposed County Library Site
AND WHEREAS, the present existing p~blic buildings and im-
provements within the Civic Center have a valuation in excess of
~ib5 000,000.00 exclusive of land,
N0~'~, TFEREFORE, BE IT ~q~0LVED BY TH~ COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BAKI~RSFIELD that it does, after a thorough study of the several pro-
oosed sites, urgently request that the Procurement Division of the
Treasury Department take proper steps to bring about the placing
of the new Federal-Post Office Building in Block 316, in the City
of Bakersfield, County of Kern', state of California;
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this
Resolution be immediately sent ~ia air mail by the Clerk of the City

of Bakersfield to Rear Admiral Christian J.' Peoples, Director of
Procurement, Treasury Department, Washington, D. C., and to
Congressman A. J. Elliott, House of Representatives, Washington
D. C.

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was passed
and adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield, at a regular
meeting thereof held on the 8th day of E~y, 1939, by the following
