WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Bakersfield has
been advised that the Government of the United States is contemplat-
ing the establishment .of a dairy in the Migratory Camp at Shafter,
California,
AND WHEREAS there are a large number of dairies in the
vicinity of the proposed dairy which can furnish milk in quantities
at practically the cost of production,
AND '~,~EREAS said dairies are now operating under strict
state and county health regulations and maintained in a scientific
and sanitary manner,
AND WHEREAS a dairy run by migratory'help could not and
would not in all probability be'handled in a scientific and proper
manner,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the
City of Bakersfield believes that it would be ill-advised to establish
a dairy in Shafter, California, and would be a material disadvantage
and detriment to the already established dairies now in operation,
to the community at large, and to the health condition of the migrants
themselves.
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk of the City
of Bakersfield is requested and directed to send a certified copy
of this resolution to Congressman Alfred J. Elliott, Senator Hiram
W. Johnson and the Farm Security Association.

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was passed
and adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield, at a regular
meeting thereof held on the 3Y~ day of April, 1959, by the
