HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES NO 5-39RESOLUTION NO. 5-39 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE C0~CIL OF T~'IE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD, as follows: '~EREAS, the Relief Problem in the San Joaquin Valley is a serious one to every municipality, county, state and federal agency, AND V~HEREAS, if work were to be started upon the Friant Dam and Canals of the Central Valley Project it would provide employ- ment for many hundreds of our citizens, AND ~.~ERPAS, though start of construction has been promised repeatedly, as yet no contracts for actual construction on the Project have been let on the Friant Division, AND ~rHER~S, we are disturbed at the thought that Congress might not appropriate sufficient money to carry on for the next fiscal year all work which could be started on every unit of the Project, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Bakersfield that Commissioner of the Bureau of Reclamation Hon. John C. Page, The United States Senators from California and the Members of the House of Representatives and the Water Authority of the State of California be urged to do everything within their power to see that work is started upon the Friant Division of the Central Valley Project immediately, and that every possible effort be made ~o see that Congress appropriates sufficient money for the ensuing fiscal year so that all work undertaken can be continued without fear of interruption due to la~ck of funds, so that as many as possible of our citizens may be given immediate employment and the concern over the continued delay in starting work may be allay~d. o0o I HEREBY CERTIFY that t~e for'egoing Resolution was passed and adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield at a regular -1- meeting thereof held on the 30th day of January, 1939, by the following vote: RYES: BODE,i, GIST, KRI~IIHB~I, M,,,~ILLRH, 5hllTii, SOLLER5, WILSOH ............................................................
