BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAttERSFIELD:
~EREAS, the City is paying large sums annually for
gas and electric energy;
AND !;~Ei~EAS, it has come to the attention of the
Council 'that certain finns and individuals within the city have
installed private and individual lighting systems and have there-
by effected substantial savings;
AND ~EREAS, it has been represented on good authority
that the city would be able to install a generating plant operated
by a Diesel motor for supplying electric current for the lighting
of its streets and thus save a large sum of money annually;
NOW, THEE~F0~E, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Manager
be and he is hereby instructed to ask for and secure plans and
specifications for a Diesel driven generating plant and the nec-
essary lines, wiring and other accessories from persons, firms
and corporations dealing in the same, together with prices and
the best terms possible; and that he investigate and report to
the Council the probable cost of operation of such a plant, the
cost of installation, the reasonable life of such equipment,
whether from his investigation he is of the opinion the same can
be operated by the city at a saving over purchasing such current
from a public utility; and that such report be furnished at the
earliest possible date.

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was
passed and adopted by the Council of the qity of Bakersfield
on the 8th day of January, 1934, by the following vote:
