WHEREAS, the State HighWay Department of the S'tate of
California desires to open and establish a new route through the
City of Bakersfield;
AND ~EREAS, the City Council of the City of Baker'sfield
believe that .the best and most advantageous route would be adjacent
to and paralleling the Southern, Pacific Right-of-Way from Union
Avenue northwest to the City Limts of the City of Bakersfield, and
beyond;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED:
That the City Council of the City of Bakersfield does
hereby approve the route for State Highway Route #4 through the
Bakersfield district which is designated as the "Railroad Route"
in the report of the Kern County Planning CommisSion and the Bakers-
field City Planning Co~nnission on! the "Northerly Entrance of
Golden State Highway into the Bakersfield District", made under
date of April 2V, 1931, and as set forth in said report; and be
it further resolved:
That contingent upon acceptance]and approval by the
State HighWay Commission the said City council does hereby agree
to then initiate and to make diligent effort speedily to consumate
proceedings for the acquisition Of all rights of way for said high-
way within the limits of the City of Bakersfield, with the under-
standing that the Board of Supervisors of. Kern County will pay
one-half the cost thereof, and the 'State of ~California will pay
for the cost of improving the highway including paving the same.
