A .Special Meeting of the. Council of the City of Bakersfield
held this 20th day of April 1928, in the .Council Chamber of the City Hall
in the City of Bakerafield, California, said meeting' ha~ing been called
by the Clerk of the sSid Council in the manner provided by law.
Said meeting was called for the purpose of considering and acting
Rpon the proposition of cornpromising the claim-of the City of Bakersfield
against the Marylead Caemlty eelparty, in reference to the loss of City
Funds and the misapprepriation thereef by the City Treasurer of the City
of Bakersfield, ins D. W- ~tilwell.
Wherein it is clatssd by the City of Bakers field that a sum in
an amenat of approximately Fifteen Thousand Dollars ($15,000,O0] was
misappropriated by City Treasurer, D. W. 8tilwetl, in his official capacity
as City Treasurer cf the City of ~akersfieldl and the matter being presented
to said Council '. at said meeting the following Resolution was unanimously
adopted by the' Council.
Upon a motion by Johnson, seconded by Carlisle, it was unanimously
resolved that the offer of sonpromise made by the Maryland Casualty Company,
a cor.pO~ration organized and existing under the laws of the State of Maryland,
being' the Bonding Compeay of the City Treasurer ,(as evidenced. b~ the Bond of
said Company,: dated the 16th day of ~tuxe~ 1922, ia the sum of Fort~ Thousand
~4b;oO0;00:)-~bo~ be accepted in fu~ satisfaction of lose and to release
fail further liability ef said Bea~ing Company on said Bend tlp~n. to the City .of
Bakersfield the sum' of $14,999;~8, be accepted, and the City Mayor o£ the City
of Bakersfield i.s hereby directed to insroe a release and receive in full to
said Bonding Company upen the payment of said-sum in full satisfaction and on
the payment ~hereof said Bond be cancelled and returned %o sa~d Maryland

surety, -executed the twenty-fifth day of June, 1924,
in the aura of Two Thousand and No/lO0 ($2000.00)
Dollars as indemnity, bond executed for D' V~-. Stilwell
as principal unto the City of Bakersfield, together
with consent-to the continuation of said bond on the
date of May 2'7, 1926, the bond having been surrendered
this day by the. ~aid City .Council fo~ the reason that
D- W. 8tilwell is no longer City Treasure~ and Tax
0oilsorer of the City of Bikersfield, he having been
released from such duties by the 2'fry of Bakers field
on the twenty-sixth day of March, t928o
