HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES NO 1-25RE~0LUTION NO. 1-25 A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF C~LLiFORNIA, IN SO FAR AS IS POSSiBLE, THAT IT CONDUCT ITS SESSIONS AND ACTS SO THAT THE PEOPLE ivtAYBE AFFORDED THE PRIVILEGE OF KNOWING THE CONTENTS OF BI~,LS PROPOSED TO BE ADOPTED BEFORE THEIR ADOPTION. WHEREAS, it has been called to the attention of the City Council of the City of Bakersfield, that in 1911 .the people of the State of California amended the State Constitution for the purpose of dividing the sessions of the legislature of the State of California into two perlords,with an intervening recess of thirty days; AND ~EREAS, the object of that law was that all the bills intended to be adopted by the legislature should be intro- duced during the first period so 'a's: to permi~ those interested to familiarize themselves ~vith the bills proposed to be passed before their adoption; AND V'~HEREAS, it appears that the object and behefit of the law has been lost because of the fact that practically all of the bills have not been introduced'during the first period in sufficient time for their being printed and sent out among .the people interested, in time for the people to familiarize themselves with their contents. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVKD by the Council of the City of Bakersfield that the legislature take such steps or acts that are necessary to make it possible to have all of the bills introduced before the legislature of the State of California, so far as is possible, during the first period of the session of the legislature, so as to permit their being printed and sent out,. so that the public may become acqu'ainted With their contents. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolu- tion be mailed to those who are representing Kern County in the Legislature of the State of California; AND THAT a copy be also mailgd to the Legislative - i - Committee of the League of California i'/lunicipalities. i HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was passed and adopted by the Coumcil of the City of Bakersfield, on the/y~day of january, 1925, by the following vote: ,~yes-Austin, Baer, Carlisle, Carlock, Griffith, Haberfeldeo Stoner City Clerk and ex-ofri~cio Clerk of the Council of the City of Bakersfield.
