WHEREAS, ' for many years l Mr..J0~sh Clarke has ·devoted his time
to the betterment of this communi,t·y ~and especially td the 'improvement
and extension Of Highway 178, a portion of whiCh lies. wi-'thin the
limits of the City of Bakersfield, and .. ... ' '· ·
WHEREAS, his devotion tothis cause has.~nevsr~Ceased and has -
now culminated in the approval by'.the.'.State* '~Department of 'Public Works
of plans for the Construction'or.a p'0rtion.'of said HighwayS. and
It is most 'fitting that r'ecognition should' be. given to Mr. Clarke '
unltiring efforts, and it is the desire of the Co'Until of the Cit~ of.'
Bakersfield to join with' the East.Bakersfield 'Progressive Club and
other interested. civic organizati~SnS, in u~'ging the. state of california
to ·honor such unselfish and untiring wprk, by p~bIic re6ognition of'
his achievement. .--'..
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOL~VED by .the' Council ,of~'the City
Bakersfield, that said Council does 'her~eby urge. the State of CalifOrnia,
through its Department of ~Public WorkS,~ DiVision of HighWays'; to
designate'as "CLARIGEWAY"~ that 'portion of Highway 178, proposed for
realignment and referred to as phase 1, which starts approximately
at 24th and M'Streets and terminates at Alta Vista Drive' a.nd Niles
Street in the' City of Bakersfiel'd,. as a tribute to Mr. ·JOSH 'CLARKE.
I HEREBY~ CERTIFY that the 'foregQlng 'Resolution 'was passed and
adopted by the Council of the City of BakerSfield at a regular meeting
thereof held on the 7th day of March, 1960; by the following vote:
