Council that it' is the intention of the State of Californi'a to
relinquish to the county of Kern·.and t'o the'City Of Bakersfield
a por'tion; of t~e. state highway running through. said city and county
and designated as U S Highway 99 upon completion Of the new
fre.eway in the'vicinity. of the. City of-Bakersfield.tolbe designated
as VI-Ker-4-B,~C', Bkd, G, and
.. WHEREAS,. the'portion of U.S. Highway 99 herein referred to
wii1. continue to'be one of the important and necessar~ thoroughfares
'in this portio~ of the County of-Kern and'of ~he City"o{-'Bakersfield
for .the. continuation and deve'lopmen.~ Of the industrial' and_commercial
..life.of.this ~ounty and of this .city, and
~FHEREAS~. Said U.S. Highway 99 will co~tinue to link maJOr
.state 'thoroughfares to each other .and be used extensively for
purposes other:~than. local purposes and not confined primarily to
City uses, --. '.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED 'by the Council of'.the City
of Bakersfield.that the state be requested that said portion of
said.U.S.. Highway 99 now intended'to-be relinquished. to the COunty.
of Kern and'td.'the City of BakerSfield be retained as a State'
highway'and.that 'the Federal.'Bureau of-Roads be requested to designate
said portion of.'Said state highway as "U.S. Highw~ay 99 - Business
Route'."., and further that a copy of .this .resolution be .filed with the
State'Division of Highways, and with the District Engineer of the
United States 'BUreau of Public Roads' at Sacramento, and that copies
