RESOLUTION NO e 88-59,
WHEREAS, the Education Committee of the Greater 'Bakersfield
Chamber of Commerce has concluded a study for 'the need in .this
community of an institution of higher learning and the Board,of
Directors of the Greater Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce has made
, its recommendations based upon said study, and
WHEREAS, in addition to the findings,9f ~he GreateI"Bakersfield'
Chamber. of Commerce, another 1ndependentfnvestigation has been made
,by the Stanford Research Institute, the results of which coinci-de
with ,the conclusions of the Chamber of' Commerce, and
It appe~ing that, due to the consistent growth of this

s'ection of the state and the rapi~ deve19pment of, the 'm:etropolit~
area o'r Kern ,County now taking place and to continue in' the years
to come, and
It also appearing that Kern County !sbeyo~d a' reasonable
distance of any university, in contrast with most commun1tiesnot
having as large a population as this county, and
It is the concensus,that'the state will' best be served by
the establishment of an upper division of a branch of' the University
of California. in this local! ty tp s~rve the nee,ds of, this' and
surr~unding communi ties f'or ,the reason that ,many per.soris, in, addi tion
to ~he industries'in this area, wou,ld. de'f'ini tely benef! t by the
availability of' information'which is, generally made pos~ible only
through'institut.1onsof' higher learn.ingabove.the junior college level.
