' WHEREAS, Phil C. Pifer,. 'Chief of the Fire Department of the
City of Bakersfield, will, on 0r about September 1, 1959, retire
from the service of'the City after 35 years' and over 8'months of
service, and
The Charter~of the City of Bakersfield prOVides that the
Council may reward any officer or m~mber of the'Fire'Department for
conduct which is heroic or meritorious, the form or amoun~ of which
shall not exceed one month, s salary, and'
The City Manager has recommended that Chief Pifer be rewarded
for service which has been particularly meritorious and well beyond
the normal call of duty, and
This COuncil is cognizant of the untiring and wholehearted
efforts of Chief Pifer in bringing our Fire ~Department within the.
enviable rating of. Class. l, which in turn has plaC~d oUrCityin a
Class 2 rating, which_rating is held by only 32 other cities, and
The members of this .Council recognize that Chief Pifer has
served the City. far bgyond the usual expectations of loyal,'efficient
and normal service, and that his many year~.of meritorious service
are well deserving. of monetary reward°
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that in appreciation ~of the
years of meritorious service which Chief Phil C. Pifer 'has given to
the City of Bakersfield, the Auditor of 'said City is hereby authorized
and requested to issue a check in the sum of $1,000.00 made payable
to said Chief PHil C. Pifer.

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing R~solution was passed and
