HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES NO 70-58 RESOLUTION N0. RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE CIVIL AERO- NAUTIOS ADMINISTRATION TO b~KE STUDY OF EFFECT 'OF MILITAEY AIRCRAFT FLIGHT IN SOUTHERN SAN JOAQUIN VALLEY. WHEREAS, the Congress ef the United States has appropriated funds for the installation of a naval air station at Lameores Cali- fornia, which milital~j installation will be utilized as a combat training facility from which supersonic Jet aircraft will be flown, and Although the Lemoore Naval Air Station is located outside the 0ounty of Kern, in all probability the flight patterns used by aircraft landing and taking off fr.m said station will encompass a northwest portion of the County of Kern, and Said Lemoore Naval Air Station is located near the existing north-south controlled airways which are used by commercial and general aircraft serving the Los Angeles, San Joaquin Valley and San Francisco areas, which controlled airways are among the most traveled air routes in the United States; and The Civil Aeronautics Administration has indicated in a document entitled "Airways Master Plan" that more north-south airways are to be established.in the southern San Joaquin Valley in the near and As a direct result of tragic disasters resulting from military Jet aircraft colliding in mid-air with commercial airliners traveling in controlled airways, there has 'been a recommended policy of ing the training flights of high performance Jet aircraft through controlled airways. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Bakersfields County of Kern, State of Cali£ornias as follows: 1. That this Council does hereby respectfully request that the Administrator of the Civil Aeronautics Administration institute a study to determine the effec:~ that Jet air'traffic from Lemoore Naval Station will have on commercial airline and general aviation flights originating and/or terminating within Kern County in view of the recently announced policy of segregating the training flights of military Jet aircraft and civilian aircraft. 2. That certificated copies of this resolution be sent by the Clerk of this Council, te United States Senators William F. Knowland and Thomas H. Kuchel, and to Congressman Harlan Hagen, and to Howard Pyle, Administrator of the Civil Aeronautics Administration.
