RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BAKERSFIELD URGING REGISTRATION OF VOTERS
AS A CIVIC DUTY.
WHEREAS, the right and privilege to vote is inalienable
under our Constitution and democratic form of government, and
WHEREAS, it is the duty~of all our citizenry.to exercise
their right of franchise, and
WHEREAS, it is incumbent upon our body as a responsible
and responsive governmental authority to foster and encourage all
of our citizens to accept their right and .duty to vote, and
WHEREAS, many of our citizens· are 'not now eligible to vote
because they are not registered, and
WEEAS, the Bakersfield City Fire Department has .for a
number ~f years .maintained the services of registering voters, and
will continue to be available 'for this.purpose.
NOW, TEEFOE , BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City
of Bakersfield, that the City of Bakersfield declare the week,of
September 2nd to September 8th, .1958, as Registration Week in the
City of Bakersfield, and urge all civic, church and 'political
groups to encourage ~s~many people as possible 'to register in order
to insure our. democratic processeSq.

passed and adopted by the Council of the City of ·Bakersfield
at a regular meeting thereof held on the 2rid day of September,
