gather to perform in competi,~ive contests of track and field
endeavors under theauspi. es of~!ithe Amateur Athletic Union; and
WHEREAS, 'the citizens of the comnunity selected as the site
for this track and field meet are'given a rare opportunity to observe
the achievements of the world'!sgrsatest athletes in their selected
events and also to become'acquainted withtt~ese participants whc are
the finest examples oftomorrow's leaders in not only athletics but
other endeavors of life; and ~,-'
WHEREAS, Kern County and the City of Bakersfield have been

honored ~by having been selected!',as the l~cation of the Seventieth
Annual Amateur Athletic Union Track and Field Meet which was held in
Bakersfield Memorial Stadium on 'june 20th and 21st; and
WHEREAS, the County 6f Kern and the City of Bakersfield were
so honored twice during a period of two years which is significant
when realized that this is an'event of national scope.
~ NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Cctuncil of the City of
Bakersfield that this Council does hereby commend the Central Section
of the National Amateur,Athletic Union for bringing this annual field
and track meet to the 0ity ®f Bakersfield, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Kern County Union High School
and Junior College District, the Greatar Bakersfield Chamber of
Commerce, Members of the Aut.mobile Dealers Association, the Bakers-
field Palice Department, News"Agencies and'all other individuals and
'organizations who contributedso greatly to the success of this
important track meet are hereby commended fo-~' expressing so adequately
this" c®mmunity' s traditional wholesome and warmhearted hospitality.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was passed
and adopted by the CoUncil of ~he City of Bakersfield at a regular
meeting thereof held on the 30th day of June, 1958, by the,follc~ing
