WHEREAS, the free use of .Truxtmn Avenue as a, cross-city
connection has been destroyed ~y the constru. ction of a median divider
strip at Union Avenue whereby east-west traffic is diverted onto said
Union Avenue by right turns only, and
WHEREAS, the plans of the Greater Bakersfield Separation
of Grade District contemplate EaSt' Eighteenth Street, East Nineteenth
Street and East Truxtun Avenue~as feeder streets to' the proposed
structure over the Southern Pacific Railway at Beale Avenue, and
This Council' is of' the fi~m opinion that the construction
of a single-purpose grade separation of Truxtun Avenue at its inter-
section with Union Avenue,. without provision for left turns onto
Union Avenue, would restore and maintain the effective and important
use of Truxtun Avenue as'a traffic carrier, particularly because
its present width and location, and
It is the belief of this Comaoil that the Greater Bakers-
field Separation· of Grade 'District may be successful. in securing one-
half of the cost of the construction of such a grade separation at
Truxtun and Union Avenues, from the State of California,-through its
Division of Highways.
NOW, T~EFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the City
of Bakersfield, that ~he Greater Bakersfield Separation of Grade
District be and it is hereby requested to include the Truxtun Avenue-
Union Avenue project in its grade separation p~ogram.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of this Council is
hereby requested to send a copy of' this resolution .to the' Greater
'B~kersfie'ld Separation .of Grade District.
