HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES NO 13-57RESOLUTION No o 13-57 RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD, CALIFORNIA, DECLARING THE RESULT OF THE CANVASS OF ELECTION RETURNS OF SPECIAL ELECTIONS HELD IN SAID CITY ON MARCH 19, 1957. The Council of the City of Bakersfield, Cali£ornia~ DOES HEREBY RESOLVE, DETERMINE AND ORDER as follows: Section 1o That pursuant to Emergency Ordinance No. 1112 N. S. two special elections were duly called and regularly held in said city on the 19th day of March, 1957~ at which elections there were respectively submitted to the qualified registered electors of said city the following propositions, to wit: PROPOSITION FOR THE ADOPTION OF A PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION PLAN: Shall the City oi Bakersfield adopt a plan for the acquisition, con- struction and establishment of a municipal bus system for said city, said plan to consist of the acquisition and improvement of certain buses, fare boxes, service equipment and vehicles, office equipment and other appurtenant property presently owned by the Bakersfield Transit Co., the acquisition of additional buses, fare boxes, service equipment, automobiles, shop tools, radio equipment, office equipment and other property necessary for said system, and the acquisition of land and the construction thereon of offices, shops, fuel station, fuel tanks, and other buildings and structures necessary for the operation of said system? PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION BOND PROPOSITION: Shall the City of Bakersfield incur a bonded indebtedness in the principal amount of $395,000 for the purpose of the acquisition and construction by said city of a certain municipal improvement, to wit: a municipal bus system for said city, including the acquisition and improve- ment of certain buses, fare boxes, service equipment and vehicles, office equipment, and other appurtenant property presently owned by the Bakersfield Transit Co., the acquisi- tion of additional buses, fare boxes, service equipment, automobiles, shop tools, radio equipment, office equipment and other property necessary for said system, and the acquisition of land and the construction thereon of offices, shops, fuel station~ fuel tanks, and other buildings and structures necessary for the operation of said system? That said special elections were duly consolidated with the city nominating election held on said date. Section 2. That the returns of said special elec- tions have been duly and regularly canvassed by this Council as provided by law, and all absentee ballots received have been counted and canvassed as provided by law. Section S. That the votes of more than two- thirds of all the voters voting at said special elections upon each of said propositions were cast in favor of the adoption of said proposition, and each of said propositions are hereby declared to be carried, and this Council is authorized to carry out the plan set forth in said plan proposition and to issue as provided by law bonds for the purposes stated in said bond proposition. Section 5.
