A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BAEERSFIELD, C~TJ.ING A SPECI~L MUNICIPLL EEC-
TION FOR THE PURPOSE 0P SUBMITTING TO TEE
QUALIFIED REGISTERED Er,ECTORS f~ PROPOSETION
TO ADOPT AN ORDINANCE ~ND PROVIDINg. F0R~ TE
CONSOLIDATION OF SAID ELECTION WiTH TE STATE
GENE ELECTION TO BE HELD ON N0~BER 6, 1956,
AND REQUESTING THE B0~RD 0P SUP~VISORS 0F THE
COUNTY OF ~F~RN TO ORDER T~ CONSOLIDATYON OF
SAID ELECTIONS.
WHEREAS, on August 12, ·1947, Ordinance No. 754, NeW Series
was duly adopted, by the provisions of which certain taxes and regu-
lations were imposed upon places of amusement and entertainm_ent in
the City-of Bakersfield, and
WHEREAS, the Council of the City. of Bakersfield believes
that the additional taxes and regulations imposed by said ordinance
upon a minority of the businesses in said City, is oppressive' and
has added additional burdens to certain businesses which otherwise
contribute to the revenue 0f the City,· and has increased the tax
burden of the citizens of the city who patronize.such places of
business, and
WHEREAS, since the adoption Of said Ordinance No. 754, New
Series, electronic oro-visual home ~entertainment has been developed
which has seriously decreased attendance at certain places of publicl
amusement and entertainment, and
WHEREAS, this Council believes that since the adoption
said ordinance the revenue of said' City has increased-to 'such an extent
that it is now feasible~ and advisable to lift the additional burden
of taxation imposed by that ordinance, and the reason ~for the continuance
of such ordinance no longer exists, and

called for that purpose, a proposition to repeal said Ordinance No.
754, New Series.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED b~'.the Cou~cil of the City
of Bakersfield, as follows: "
1. That aspecial municipal~election 'be held, and the sa~!e
is hereby called to be held, on'Tuesday, November 6, 1956, in the City
of Bakersfield, for the purpose of submitting.to ~the electors of said
City, the following ordinance:

NEW SERIES 0F 'THE CtT~Z OF B~EERSFiELD.
BE IT ORDAINED by 'the People of the City of Bakersfield,
as follows:
SEOTIOE 1.
That Ordinance No. 754,'New Series of the City of Bakers-
field, imposing a tax for the carrying on, conducting, operating,
providing and maintaining places of amusement and entertainment
for the p~urpose of raising municipal ~evenue, be and the same
is hereby repealed.
SECTION' 2.
This ordinance shall become effective January 1, 1957,
following its a proval by a majority ·vote of the qualified regis~
tered electors.~
2. That said proposition shall be' placed on the ballot to
be used at said special municipal election in the ~ollo~ring words and
figures, to wit:

3. That said special municipal election be and it is hereby
ordered to be consolidated with the State~GeneralElection to be held
on November 6, 1956, and the Board of Supez~Visors of the County of
Kern is hereby requested toorder such consolidation in accordance
with the provisions of this resolution.
4. That within the City of Bakersfield the precincts, polling
places and officers of election for' said special municipal election
shall be the same as those provided for said 'State General Election
within said city. The Board of Supervisors of the County of Kern is
hereby authorized to canvass the returns of said special municipal
election, and shall certify the result of the canvass of said returns
to the Council of the City of Bakersfield, who shall thereupon declare
the results thereof.
5. That'the Clerk of the Council is hereby directed to
transmit to the Clerk of said Beard of Supervisors, a certified copy of
this resolution as required by Section lO051.1.of the Elections Code.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution ~¢aS passed and
adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield at a regular meeting
thereof held on the 2?th day of August, 1956, by the following vote:
