WHEREASj the Council of the City of Bakersfield has for
several months attempted to arrive at an agreement ~.q'ith the Divi...
sion of Highways, Department of. Fublie vlorks of the State of
California~ regarding the disposition of Truxtun Avenue at its in..
tersection with High~ay 99 in connection with the state's plans for
the widening of an underpass on Highway 99 at said intersection, and
WHEREAS, the Council IS pleas for a simple overpass to carry
Truxtun Avenue over Highway 99 at said location have been rejected
by the state, and the state is proceeding with its original plans
which would result in the virtual "closing" orfl:1ead...endingn of Trux-
tun Avenue at Highway 99, and
It appearing that n. appeal is available to this Council
from the decision of the State to proceed as planned, other than to
the Governor of' the State of California.
NOW, THEREFORE.,EE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the City of
Bakersfield, that the Mayor of the City of Bakersfield, be, and he is
hereby authorized to forward a letter of protest and appeal to the
Honorable Goodwin J. Knight, Governor of the State of California, pro'"
testing against the plans of the Division of High~la,yS to block Trux-
tun Avenue at Highway 99, and appe aling for a further consideration
by the Division of Highways to determine the feasibility of con-
structing an overpass to carry Truxtun Avenue over Highway 99 at
this time.
