'A RESOLUTrON AUTHORIZING THE i~L~YOR .TO CALL
A MEETING. OF THE BAKERSFFELD COMMUNITY CHEST,
FOR THE PURPOSE OF REORGA~EEZING FACILITIES
FOR'FUND RAISING IN BAKERSFIELD~
WHEREAS, there was organized in this City a Community Chest
whose function was to assist in the raising of funds in conjunction
with the several institutions engaged in social ~eifare activities
-f.P the benefit of needy, and provide recreational and youth train-
ing services, and
WHEREAS. it has been called to'the attention of this Council
that said Community Chest has ceased to actively functions and has
not taken part in the many fund raising drives conducted by the various
organizations since 1951, end
WHEREAS, as a consequence of the lack of coordination of the
activities of said organization and various agencies, the per capita
cost of fund raising fop charitable purposes has risen and as .a result
many of the agencies have been unable to r'aiSe sufficient funds to
operate and to carry on the work so essential in this community, and
WHEREAS, it is deemed to the'best interest of the comaunity
that a central fund Palsing agency be established fop the ,purpose
carrying on the.long established Ar,~eric'an custom of extending a helping
hand to those in need, and
1~q~EREAS, it is deemed that the functioning. of'the Comm~mity Chest
is essential and best suited to carry on 'such wonk in Bakersfield.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CiTY OF
BAEERSFIELD, that the Mayor is hereby authorized and requested to .all
a meeting of the members of the Bakersfield Community Chest or such
persons as may be interested in the reorganization of fund ,raising in
this community, to better cape for those in need of assistance, and
for better c~opdination with the several agencies devoting their time
and efforts to the assistance of those 'in need~

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution r~as passed
and adopted by the Council of the .City of Bakersfield, at .a regulsr
meeting thereof, held on the llth~day of April, 1955, by the follow-
ing vote:
