Z-55 WHEREAS, appeals from parentS, teachers, various other citizens and associations of this community have been made' to bhe" Council 'of-~he/:City of B~'.ke~rsfield, for legislation to pro- hibit or control the .diStrib~!~'ion and sale of lurid, pornographic, and obscene literature,' and Due to the~increase in various forms Of literature to be obt'~ine.d on the market which portrays horror, sex, sensationalism~ depravity, crime and licentiousness, this Council has been request- ed to !tak~4~;~Steps to controlL o~ prohibit the sale and distribution of such literature, and ,~his councit/'is informed that a bill ..to control or prohibit the· sale and distribution of s;nch obscene ahd lurid literature is '~being preS'~nted to the .LegiSlature for adoption, and This Council is firmly convinced that state-wide control of this !I~oblem which has enveloped 'a major part of our United States, is necessary in order to~ cambat the evil· influence which is avail- a!ble to ou~- children o~ many bookstands in most every city.
