RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF -
BAKERSFIELD IN REGARD TO THE LOCATION OF
THE PROPOSED CALIFORNIA STATE COLLEGE ,
KERN COUNTY.
WHEREAS, the Planning CommiSsion of the City oi Bakers-
field approved and adopted the Bakersfield Met'ropolitan Area
General Plan October 4, 1961; and ·
WHEREAS, the Comprehensive General 'Plan was adopted
by the Council of the City of BakersfieId. November·6, 1961';.
and
WH.~EREAS, The Bakersfield Metropolitan Area General
Plan.depicts possible locations for.a four (4) year college or
universitytwit~in the 1980 projected growth area;' and'
WHEREAS,I these areas are suitable in relationship tO
the factors of aesthetic qualitie~,l..prop0sed land use and zoning,
circulation and transportation element of the General Plan, public
transportation, proximity to Downtown Bakersfield,.' shopping areas
and Other community facilities; and .

WHEREAS, the Bakersfield 'Metropolitan.Area is the hub
of Ke~n County and is the only Metropolitan Area' in ~he Southern
San'Joaquin-Valley; and' :"
WHEREAS~ the Bakersfield Metropolitan Area is served bY
seven (7),high'schools 'and provides not only all the necessary
facilities .and services required'by a Icollegel but recreational
and cultural facilities,'job opportunities for students,: and
available.student .housing, '
'NOW~ TEEFOE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council' of the
City of Bakersfield that the proposed State .College be' located
within· ·the Bakersfield Metro
recommended for'. approval,'
