RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF'. THE CITY OF
BAKERSFIELD URGING ALL RESIDENTS OF THE'
CITY OF BAKERSFIELD TO. DISPLAY THE UNITED
STATES FLAG ON NOVEMBER 11~ VETERANS DAY.
WHEREAS, NOvember 11, '1965,. marks another annxversary
of Veterans Day.in the United states; and .
WHEREAS~ we celebrate this day each year not only in
remembrance'oI those who have diedin.the defense of our country'.
but also"in recognition ofthe millions o'~ living.Americans who
have 'served in our armed forces during periodSof War and national
emergency; and ~. ... ..
WHEREAS,. recent legislation'establishes.lmen' and women
who have served with this country'S armed.forces"in Vietnam 'as
veterans; and ' · ....
WHEREAS, there are 2-1/3 million War 'veterans' at present
residing in this state, of whom 1.1/~..million are California
veterans; and
WHEREAS, the State DirectOr of'Veterans Affairs, Joseph
M. Farbet, recently named Chairman" and Coordinator Of '~he National
Veterans Day Observances in Calilornia,!has called ~or a massive.
display o~ the ~ni~ed States ~lag this Veterans Day as evidence
ofveterans~ patriotism; and.
WHEREAS, by flying the flag, we all can demonstrate to
the world that we 'are proud o~ our country,. and that we support.
the President and the nation and stand firmly.behind the men and
women now-serving in the armed services .... _ ~ "
NOW~ TEEFOE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the
City' of Bakersiield that all resident~ of this..City are hereby
urged to show their patriotism and their appreciation to-the
men and womeU who are now or have been in the past members of
'the armedservices of this country.by displkying the. United
states .flag'on'November. ll~, YeteranS'Day~ ..
