RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BAKERSFIELD APPLYING FOR STATE MATCHING
FUNDS FOR URBAN EXTENSION OF F.'A. S. ROADS.
WHEREAS, Section 143.3 of the Streets and Highways Code of the
State of California provides that certain funds are available for improvement
of Federal Aid Secondary Highways within Urban Areas, and
WHEREAS, the City of Bakersfield desires to improve South '"H" Street
(Federal Aid Secondary 882) between Ming Avenue and White Lane, and
WHEREAS, the description of said project, including limits, nature,
costs, pertinent background data, and a description of the projects in the
contiguous rural area which create the need for the proposed imt~rovements
are as set forth in the Project Report submitted by the City of Bakersfield,
dated May 21, 1965, and in relation to this project it is further attested that:
In August, 1953, the County of Kern completed the
improvement of 3.41 miles of South "H" Street between
Taft Highway and White Lane to a roadway section of 36 feet.
In January, 1963, the City of Bakersfield completed the
improvement of 1.30 miles of "H't Street between Brundage
Lane and Truxtun Avenue to a roadway section of 64 feet
under the Urban Extension Program.
On October 29, 1964, the California Highway Commission
adopted the State Highway Budget for the 1965-66 Fiscal Year
which includes in the Federal - aid Secondary Urban Extension
Construction Program the improving of 1.0 miles of South "H"
Street between Brundage Lane and Ming Avenue by construction
of a four lane divided roadway.
South "H" Street is part of an approved City-County General
Plan for major arterial and collector streets integrated with
the State Freeway System·
The City is cognizant of the effect of the proposed financing
in relation to the statutory formula contained in Section 188.4
of the Streets and Highways Code appertaining to the apportion-
ment of the State Highway construction monies among the counties.

The City of Bakersfield has acquired or will acquire the
necessary right of ways to assure completion of the project
as described in the project report.
The City has appropriated, or will appropriate sufficient
~unds to complete its share of the project which will not
be less than 50 percent.
The improvement is proposed ~or construction as a City
contract.
NOW~ THEREFORE~ BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Bakersfield
hereby applies for $260,000.00 of funds made available under the
provisions oi Section 143.3 of the Streets and Highways Code for use
on South "H" Street, between Ming Avenue and White Lane.

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the loregoing Resolution was passed
and adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield at a regular
meeting thereof held on the 14th day o£ June, 1965~ by the following
