A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL. OF THE CITY
OF BAKERSFIELD URGING THE ESTABLISHMENT'
OF A STATE COLLEGE IN KERN COUNTY.
WHEREAS, information contained in the study ."Kern County
Can ·Qualify for an Institution .of High Learning Now". supports the'
establishment of a State College in Kern. County, and
WHEREAS, the objective of obtaining a four-year college-
in Kern County can best be accomplished by all interested Organi-
zations supp0'rting the Kern County Board of Education's goal o-f a
State .College in Kern County, and
WHEREAS, Kern County meets all principles and criteria
for establishment of a State College, as defined by the Coordinating
Council of Higher Education, and
,. WHEREAS, the establishment of a State C.ollege'in 'Kern'-
County merits the highest priorit. y by. the'Coordinated CounCil of
Higher Education so that an' opportunity for ,higher education for
'upwards ·of one-half million Californians can be provided, .and
WHEREAS, Kern County is the only standard .metropolitan
area in California without a 'four-year, higher .education institution;
_ i. 'NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Councii' of the City
of Bakersfield as follows: .... - -'
1. The City of 'Bakersfield hereby records its strong
support for the establishment of a .State College in .Kern County-by
the 1965 state "legislature, and urges' the ~' Coordinating ,Council
for Higher Education to make such recommenda.tion.
2. The City Clerk is instruc:ted to forward'copies of
