A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE !'CALIFORNIA·'
HIGHWAY PATROL TO TAKE OVER .TRAFFIC.
MANAGEMENT OF THE NEW HIGHWAY 99 · ..
FREEWAY WITHIN THE .CITY.0F BAKERSFIELD.'... ..
.WHEREAS, there is about to' be completed a new .section of
Highway 9~ thrdugh the City O'f Bakersfield, and':.. ..·....
WHEREAS, ~aldnew section-- 0~ Righway 99 through ~the".
City of Bakersfield will be a part' o.f a..·c.o'ntinu0us freeway through
Central' California, and . . '-
~. WHEREAS, Section 2400 of the Vehicle Code of the. State.
of 'California vests in the Commissioner o~. the California Hi·ghway'
Patrol the administration' and traffic""management of vehic,'!eS,-and
WHEREAS, the Police Depar:tment of the. City. of Bakers field
has, up to the" present time,· enforced state and local traffic laws
withi-n.-the City limits of Bakersfield'on sta'te highways passing
through the City of Bakersfield, and .. : ' ; .. :"
WHEREAS, the California .Highway Patrol maintains. L~affi~
management and enforces traffic laws ··on .higb_ways"at .all times of the'
day .and night.~ and . "· . . ' ...~'
"' WHERE,AS, it is desirable,.in the interest Of effidient
traffic law enforcement, ..to have a singl.e law enforcement agency
.enforce-traffic laws on state .freewayS, ~. .. ..
. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED' that 'the City Council of
the City of Bakersfield her'eby requests 'the. California Highway
Patrol'to' exercise exclusive traffic law .enforcement 'and" management'.·
over that section of the .new .Highway 199=Fre~Way and its adjoining.
ramps which .passes through 'the' ~City limits-o.f the city ;o.~ Bakers-
