A RESOLUTION OF .THE COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF BAKERSFIELD PROCLAIMING
MAY'.i, 1962 AS LAW DAY USA IN THE
CITY OF BAKERSFIELD.
WHEREAS, aS Americans we' cherish individual freedom as a
birthright, and every citizen of this community depends upon laws'and
-~courts .to protect'his rights, to safeguard his person and property,.
and.to enable him to enjoy the privileges .of life in a free Society;
and ·
WHEREAS, without 'laws predicated upon' equal justice, and
independent courts to administer them, the 'liberties we take 'for
granted would be meaningless; and
WHEREAS, our legal and judicial systems are foundation s'tones
upon which rest our representative .government, our economic Well-being,
and our whole social order; .and
WHEREAS, the Congress of 'the United States,'and the President
'by official proclamation, have set aside May 1 as a special day for
recognizing the place'of. law in American life'; and
WHEREAS, observance of the special day known as Law Day USA
will take the form of pro. grams. sponsored by 'various organizations, in
the schools, and in appropriate public ceremonies in order' to foster
increased respect for law and a broader awareness of the Benefits and
also the responsibilities of citizenship.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by. the Council of the City of
Bakersfield that May 1, 1962. be proclaimed as Law Day USA in the City
of Bakersfield,. and that citizens, organizations and schools give
appropriate recognition to this Special day. '

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was passed and
adopted by the 'Council of the City of.'Bakersfield, 'at a regular meeting
thereof, held on the 12th day of March, 1962~ by the following vote:
