A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF BAKERSFIELD SETTING ASIDE 'THE. HOUR
BETWEEN 12:00 NOON AND 1:00 P.M'. ON
MARCH 7, 1962, AS A TIME FOR SPECIAL
PRAYER AND. SUPPLICATION. ·
WHEREAS., the citizens of Bakersfield.10ok to the City Council
for leadership, and it is the custom, on occasion, to set aside certain
times for the'lifting'up of.certain good Cause~, and
WHEREAS, in recent days there has been a notable rise in morale
in the community and nation due to successful accomplishment of the
first orbital flight of an American citizen, and
WHEREAS, Wednesday, March 7, 1962 is the first day of'a season
widely used by Americans for special prayers and dedications, and
WHEREAS, ~he ministers of the Greater Bakersfield area will be
gathering in a Chapel from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. for prayer without
regard to denominational differences, emphasizing their oneness as
Godfearing men,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED-by the council of the City of
Bakersfield that th'e hour between 12:00 noon and 1:00 p.m. on March 7,
1,962 be set aside as a time for special prayer and supplication,
calling upon the people of Bakersfield to pause for a moment of prayer,
each in his own place--each in his own t-ime--and each in his own way.
It is suggested that prayers be offered for:
1-. Gratitude, not only for the success of recent endeavors,
,but for the manner in which these endeavors were accomplished, in the
full light of public knowledge.
2.~l- A deeper dedication to the centr'al mission of America as a
nation of free men,..~wher~ each in~iyidu~l iS important in theleyes o,~
3. The growth of reason and understanding among the nations of
the world which-. shall bring peace and freedom to all mankind.

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was passed and
adopted by the Council of the City of Bakers field at'a regular meeting
thereof held on the 5th day of March, 1962 by the following vote:
