A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BAKERSFIELD REQUESTING THE REPEAL OF SENATE BILL
NO. 1531 (S26Y09 AND S26711 OF THE VEHICLE CODE)
WHICH 'REQUIRES THE INSTALLATION OF' RIGHT OUTSIDE
REAR-VIEW MIRRORS AND MOVABLE EYE- SHADES' .ON' BUSES
AND/OR TROLLEY COACHES. .
WHEREAS', Senate Bill No. 1531 (S26709 and S26Yll of the Vehicle
Code), which provides 'that all buses or trolley coaches must be
equipped with a right outside rear-view mirror and 'movable eye-shades,
was adopted by the State Legislature at the 1961 Session; and
WHEREAS, the installation of mirrors on certain types of buses
and trolley coaches would create a definite safety hazard because of
the fact that the mirrors could not be placed high' enough to clear
waiting passengers and still permit visibility for the driver; and
WHEREAS, some buses are equipped at the factory with transparent
p iexiglas s .eye - shade s;
NOW', THEREFORE, THIS' CITY COUNCIL DOES HEREBY. RESOLVE AS
FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1.
That the State Senate and Assembly are hereby requested to
repeal Senate Bill NO. 1531.in the interests Of public .safety.
SECTION 2.
That the City Clerk is hereby directed .to send certified
copies of this resolution to the Senate'Transportation Committee, the
Senate and Assembly Health and Safety Co~nnittees, the President of
the Senate and the Speaker of the Assembly, Senator Walter W. Stiern,
Assemblyman John C. Williamson, 39th District, and Assemblyman Jack
Casey, 38th District.

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was passed and
