A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF'BAKERSFIELD
STATE OF CALIFORNIA, REQUESTING THE
CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY COMMISSION TO RE-ROUTE
PORTIONS OF AND TO ADOPT CERTAIN CITY
' STREETS. AS STATE HIGHWAY ROUTE 52 IN THE
CITY OF BAKERSFIELD.·:
WHEREAS, the Department of Public Works· Of the State of
California proposes to construct a freeway for State Highway Route 57
in the City of Bakersfield between M Street and the East City Limit
ofBakersfieid as set forth in a Freeway Agreement dated July 17·,.
1961, betwean said Department of. Public Works and' said City; and "
'~;WHEREAS, it is urgent to relieve traffic'congestion on Niles
Street between Stockton Street and Williams'Street'prior to con-
structiOn~--of said freeway on State Highway Route 57, and'
'WHEREAS, by Ordinance No. 1392 New Series, City Council of
said Cityhas declared portions of Niles Street and Monterey.Street
between Stockt'on Street .and Williams Street to be one-way streets
contingent upon their adoption as State.Highway RoUte 57.
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Council of the City of
Bakersfield as follows:
That in. order to provide urgent relief of traffic congestion,
the-Cali'fornia Highway Commission is hereby reque~'ted. to declare and
adopt State. Highway Route' 57 as'folloWs:·
1'/Along Twenty,second Street, from 'intersection of'said
street with Union Avenue to the intersection of said street with
Golden State Avenue and thence
'2° Along Golden State Avenue ·from intersection of said Avenue
with'.Twenty-second Street to 'the intersection of said 'Avenue with
~-Twenty-feurth Street,-'?and'~thence
3. Along Twenty-fourth Str'eet'.:f~om intersection ·of said street
~.=;~£ch. Colden'State Avenue to theintersectiOn~of said street with
-Union Avenue, and thence
4. Along. Union Avenue from intersection Of said avenue with
Twenty-fourth Street to the intersection· .of 'said avenue with Niles
Street, and thence
5. Along Nites Street from intersection of said street with
Union Avenue to the intersection of said street with Monterey Street,
and. thence
6. Along Monterey and ·Niles Streets',. these being;'substantially
parallel streets within the City 'of Bakersfield, from the intersection
of said streets with each Other to the vicinity-of Williams 'Street.
IT IS FURTHER RESOLVED that the California Highway. Commission
is requested to include in its adoption as State Highway .Route 57 a
connection between Monterey Street and Niles Street in the vicinity of
Williams-Street, said connection'to be 'constructed by the .Department
of Public Works ·of the ·State of California
