RESOLUTION APPROVING ACTION OF THE GREATER
BAKERSPIELD CHAMBER OF ,COMMERCE RELATIVE T0'
CALIFORNIA PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION CASE
N0. 7024.
WHEREAS, a study undertaken in 1957 by. the Stanford Research
Institute for %he Greater Bakers{ield Chamber of Commerce. indicated
"a probable freight rate disadvantage in competing for California

WHEREAS, an "'Analysis Of CLass Rates In California AS They
AffeCt Greater Bakersfield" prepared by Kenneth G..Glare and A. E.
Norrbom, Transportation Consultants, South Pasadena, Oalifornia,.in
· June of 1958 concluded that rate disparities actually exist and
recommended that %he Greater Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce intervene
at %h'e appropriate time in %he California PUbliC Utilities Commission
oroceedings..in. order %o state its position and submit supporting
'factual data, and '- ~
WHHREAS, the Economic, DeVelopment. Department'Of,the Greater
Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce p'etitioned Carl Zachrisson, Commissioner
of the State E~on0mic Development Agency February .22, 196t to undertake
a study and analysis of freight rate structures as they now exist ,and
affect various cities inthe San. Joaquin Valley, with no act'ion takeh
on the request, and
-WHEREAS, the Industrial. Development Steerin9 Committee of the
' Greater Bakersfield Chamber of C.omm'erce on March 6, 1961 retained
Howard E. Meyers, Freight Consultant,-BakerSfield', to prepare its case
and represent the Chamber at the hearin9s of the Public Utilities
Commission in the matter of Case No. V024 achedbled for the month of

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City .Council Of the 'City
of Bakersfield at its regular weekly meeting this date approves the

action taken by the Greater Bakersfield. Chamber Of Commerce relative
to Public Utilities Commission Case No. 7024, and.
BE IT RESOLVED, that this Council au%Korizes Howard E.'.Meyers,
freight ConSultant toofficially represent'the. City o'f Bakers~ield.
inthe.ma%.~er of Public Utilities Commission Case No. 7024.relative
'to requeSting-specific changes'in proposed Distance Table No. D, and
., BE IT FdRTH~R RESOLVfiD, that said council fully approves the
supporting data and exhibits prepared by Mr.. Meyers for:
1;= ' The addition of provisions establishing a Bakersfield
-Extended Area in proposed Distance Table No. 5, in a
" ' like manner as _nOw provided therein for the cities of
[resno, Sacramento and Stockton.
2. The re-consideration '.of'proposed constructive mileage
of 143 miles betweefi Bakersfield and the proposed
CentfaI' Lgs Angeles Metropolitan Zone Group (MZ 235),
under provisions of Part 1 and. as shown by maps in
- Part 2 of Prbposed, Distance Table. No. 5;
