A RESOLUTION 0F. THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF BAKERSFIELD COMMENDING AND ENCOURAGING
THE EFFORTS OF THE BAKERSFIELD EVENING
HIGH SCHOOL 'AND THE KERN COUNTY UNION H/GH
SCHOOL AND JUNIOR COLLEGE DISTRICT IN
COOPERATION WITH THE OFFICE OF CIVIL DEFENSE
AND MILITARY DEFENSE IN SPONSORING CIVIL
DEFENSE ADULT EDUCATION COURSE, "INDIVIDUAL
AND FAMILY SURVIVAL."
WHEREAS, the City Council recognizes the need for and the
importance of the Civil Defense AdUlt Education CourSe, "Individual
and Family Survival"; and "
WHEREAS, the Council is aware that every community in ~his
.sta'te is subject to the catastrophes of major proportionS; and
WHEREAS, floods, fires, and earthquakes are commonplacein
Calif0rnia's history; and
~HEREAS, with our increasing population the hazards of natural
'disaQters ·have v~stly increased; and
WHEREAS, man-made disasters'have. become more frequent and' more
serious in·their consequences becauSe.of the increased concentration
of man and his'industries in CalifOrnia; and'
EAS, an even more serious-threat to ,the individual and
family lies in'the possibilityof an.'act of war; and
WHEREAS, as heads of families'and as resp'onSible citizens we
need to understand the hazards of our times, and we need to know how
to meet these ever-increasing threats to family well-being and
seCurity~ and
WHEREAS, the Council is assured that knowledge is a key"to
su-~vival;
NOW, TH~REFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED by the City Council of

(a) That this.Counc'i! does hereby'urge. %he-.participation by
all of the Citizenry of Bakersfield in the "IndiVidual a~d Family
Survival" O0urse in order %hat everyone mayhhQe. the assurance of
being prepared %o cope with man-made and natural'disasters.
(b)'.That this Council does hereby commend and encourage the
continued efforts of the Bakersfield EveniAg High School and the Kern
.County Union High School and'Junior College District in cooperation
with the'Office of, Civil and Military Defense and ~he California'State
Department of Education in sponsoring this program dest~ned to'meet
the survival. needs of California-
