HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES NO 78-69RESOLUTION NO. 78-69 RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD REQUESTING A COMMITMENT OF FEDERAL FUNDS UNDER THE T.O.P.I.C.S. PROGRAM FOR THE INSTALLATION OF A TRAFFIC SIGNAL AT THE INTERSECTION OF BAKER STREET AND CALIFORNIA AVENUE. WHEREAS, it is necessary and desirable that a traffic signal be installed at the intersection of Baker Street and California Avenue in the greater Bakersfield area of the County of Kern, State of California; and WHEREAS, the north leg of said intersection is within the jurisdiction of the City of Bakersfield; and WHEREAS, federal funds are available to assist in the financing of said traffic signal installation under the Topics (Urban Traffic Operations Program to Increase Capacity and Safety) progra~ of the Bureau of Public Roads of the U. S. Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration as provided by Section 10 of the Federal-Aid Highway Act of 1968; and WHEREAS, procedural rules required for participation in the federal Topics program require a resolution by the City Council of the City of Bakersfield indicating that the City of Bakersfield is prepared to finance its share of the cost of the traffic signal installation and requesting a commitment of federal funds; and WHEREAS, the estimated cost of the traffic signal installation is $40,000.00 of which federal funds will pay $28,500.00 and City funds will pay $2,800.00; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: 1. That the City of Bakersfield hereby requests a commitment of-federal funds under-the-"Topics"-program -£or the installation of a traffic signal at the intersection of Baker Street and California Avenue in the greater Bakersfield area of the County of Kern. 2. That the City of Bakersfield is prepared to finance its share of the costs of said traffic signal which share is estimated to be the sum of $2,800.00. 3. That the City Clerk is hereby directed to send certified copies of this resolution to the U. S.
