A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD
URGING PASSAGE OF PROPOSITION "H",
GREATER BAKERSFIELD SEPARATION OF GRADE
DISTRICT, AT NOVEMBER 5, 1968 GENERAL
ELECTION.
WHEREAS, the proposed construction of an "F" Street
underpass would provide the first grade separation across the
Santa Fe Railroad Company tracks between Oak and Chester Avenue;
and
WHEREAS, such a grade separation would be halfway between
Oak Street and Chester Avenue which are two major arterials of the
City of Bakersfield; and
WHEREAS, the proposed "F" Street underpass would relieve
traffic off Chester Avenue which is reaching its design capacity;
and
WHEREAS, an "F" Street underpass will provide ingress to
Downtown Bakersfield; and
WHEREAS, construction of such an underpass will relieve
traffic congestion on California Avenue and Bakersfield High School;
and
WHEREAS, such an underpass will provide a needed direct
connection between central Bakersfield and the new State College;
and
WHEREAS, Proposition "H" can be financed without an
increase in taxes; and ~'
WHEREAS, the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railroad
Company will make a contribution of approximately $550,000 to
$600,000 towards this grade separation cost; and
WHEREAS, the proposed "F" Street'underpass would benefit
our community in a reasonable and efficient manner;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Bakers field
does hereby urge the passage of Proposition "H" at the November 5
General Election.

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was
passed and adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield at a
regular meeting thereof held on the 28th day of October, 1968, by
the following vote:
